floating

This one is for my dear friend who recently “floated” in full colour at a fantastic body movement retreat!  Let’s all celebrate our bodies more and move them in juicy ways whenever we can….I will be dancing this weekend for sure, and perhaps I should do a bit every day (when I am doing the dishes or other chores). How about you?  What ways do you love to move your amazing body?

happy birthday canada

Hope everyone is celebrating the RED and WHITE today!  I really should make one of these cakes in honour of the day, but I was just too busy soaking up the sun and splashing in the sea with my kiddos.  I really do live in paradise and am so grateful I was born in this amazing country!  Happy Canada Day everyone!

making truth cards

Here’s a peek at something I love to do — make “truth cards” (AKA doodle cards, art cards, inspiration cards).  With only a little bit of time and no rules, you too can make little pieces of art that make a big statement!  Start with scraps of watercolour paper (or tear up your cereal boxes) & some paint (or crayon, markers, pastels)….add a cup of tea, some glitter glue and a typewriter (or your favourite pen), get your hubby to put on some good tunes….you will make MAGIC!   One of my latest cards was inspired by Florence and the Machine’s “Never Let Me Go”….the ocean reference in the song speaks to me and that, combined with the live plankton we checked out with microscopes at our Oceans Day event, made for a very playful little card. I love capturing my favourite quotes or a special moments on these wee cards.  I gift them, I pop them in the mail, I prop them on every table top in the house, and washi tape helps them live on the walls.

What fun, fast art project ideas are you loving these days?  Feel free to share your ideas in the comments for all to see (and try)!

the “stuff” that matters

I am feeling surrounded by too much stuff these days. Lots of it belongs to my kids, but most of it is mine.  I am a sentimental pack rat (certainly a dangerous combination) who lives in a big house (danger! danger!) and I am collecting too many treasures (and art supplies and “might-need-someday” things and, and….).  In recent years I have taken some half-hearted stabs at purging (letting go is hard for me on so many levels).  Plenty of boxes have gone out the door to the local thrift shops, but oh I love finding new treasures at those very same thrift shops (and apparently the in-flow is greater than the out-flow).  Then there are the treasures I am clinging to as my children grow – the art, the momentos, favourite baby clothes etc —- oh, those first walking shoes!

I am looking around me and feeling it might be time to do another purge, but more importantly, perhaps a shift in perspective will assist me the most.  I came across this today and am inspired by this important reminder of what is important!

Thank you to Red Autumn for offering this illustration to all of us for free.  Hope it inspires you too.  I am off to DO some fun art with my kids (wish me luck that I might let go of the final product).
