married to a marketer man = mmm

Being married to a marketer has its perks, for sure!  This is the third week that my hubby (and his bakery partner) have been taking their organic, wood-fired wares to the local Farmers’ Markets.  This is the third week that we have been enjoying the incredible first fresh local foods of the season!

Photo: You may get strawberries or asparagus, but you'll have to be here early :)

Juicy strawberries that taste of the summer to come, crisp snap peas, green beans (that taste like real beans!), a giant glowing white cauliflower, stunning peppers/tomatoes/cukes from a local greenhouse, ravishing radishes, perfect cilantro, a butter lettuce that looks like a bouquet, amazing asparagus, local beef jerky, and luscious handmade soap!

I love this time of year, and I think my baker does too (even though adjusting to the crazy market baking hours must be tough).  We love that so much local food is filling our kitchen (and our bellies) at this busy time of year!  In fact, indulging in those strawberries might just be enough to sustain me through the upcoming ballet recital weekend!

Please get out and support your local marketers….even though the rain is falling, they are out there waiting to remind you why we need all this rain (trust me, the first produce of the season is worth a walk in the rain)!  You will find our bakery at the Nanaimo Bowen Road Farmers’ Market every Wednesday, the Nanaimo Downtown Farmers’ Market every Friday and the Gabriola Island Farmers’ Market every Saturday.
