smells like strawberries

My hubby just came home from the Farmer’s Market in Nanaimo, he made it just in time to tuck the girls in, and as he leaned over to kiss Alex she said “mmmm, you smell like strawberries!”.  He came home with the first strawberries of the season (traded for our organic artisan bread) and the girls are planning their breakfast already and drifting off with declarations to “dream of dancing strawberries tonight!”.  I am hoping my fluey cold disappears by tomorrow, so we can try these roasted strawberry, brie and chocolate grilled sandwiches for dinner!

sketching salmon at the stream

Recently, my job and my kids shared some time together by a local stream. I was asked to lead students from our local school on a field trip to release the salmon they had been rearing in their classroom (part of DFO’s Stream to Sea Program).  They welcomed my daughters and a few other homeschoolers to join the fun, and so I was able to hang out with my kids at work!

The moment the fish were released into the wild was powerful and the discussion we had about how to keep the streams and oceans healthy for the salmon was inspiring. Oh how I enjoyed sketching the salmon in their new home…alongside my girls! I really must be sure to do more outdoor art now that the weather is warming up…

….don’t you just love how the salmon are having a dance class, so happy in their new home!

{single moment}

A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.    Inspired by Soulemama.

remembering Mom

…..remembering my amazing mom today, missing her and thanking her for sharing so much love with me (including the love of the sea)…..

…..knowing her love is passed along to my two girls, through me (and the sea)….

…..sending her so much love, from all of us, as we create our own mother daughter memories on this beautiful coast….
