Recently, my job and my kids shared some time together by a local stream. I was asked to lead students from our local school on a field trip to release the salmon they had been rearing in their classroom (part of DFO’s Stream to Sea Program). They welcomed my daughters and a few other homeschoolers to join the fun, and so I was able to hang out with my kids at work!
The moment the fish were released into the wild was powerful and the discussion we had about how to keep the streams and oceans healthy for the salmon was inspiring. Oh how I enjoyed sketching the salmon in their new home…alongside my girls! I really must be sure to do more outdoor art now that the weather is warming up…
….don’t you just love how the salmon are having a dance class, so happy in their new home!
i LOVE the drawings!! they are awesome!!
they are such amazing artists (note: the last 2 drawings are by Raena) and I learn so much from them, they are so free and playful with their art!
Sounds FUN! Enjoy the nice weather!!
we love it all, even the puddle jumping rainy days!
WOW! Your Millstone sketch is lovely, takes me right there. I love the care and thought your girls put into their work. Inspiring…!
thanks Alex, we had such a special day together! I so love doing art with my girls, and watching their natural curiousity unfold!
Hello Christy & Girls,
What an inspiring, thoughtful way of sharing the work you do with the future Keepers of the Streams and Oceans. For the students to see the young salmon swimming in a free environment even though it will be a perilous journey . The fry know the feeling of swimming free and I am sure the students understand the joy of being part of this event. Christy you are a wonder and the girls art work express their wonder of being there with you. Thank you for sharing their joy and their art with all of us.
Liz, thank you for these kind words. I too love to see how my girls respond to nature with wonder and respect!
